I just wanted to provide a short note to announce the “Fall Arts and Crafts Show” on Sunday, 15 September 2024. Once again, we’ll be at the Charlotte Harbor Events Center in Punta Gorda, Florida. The show is an excellent opportunity for me to meet so many people who are interested in books (most people are) and talk about Mackenzie’s story in the “I am a Soldier, First and Always” series; perhaps, talk about the latest novel in development bringing the Mackenzie family into the 20th Century; and talk about writing in general. I find many folks look for books as gifts with the holidays approaching. I enjoy the engagement with folks. I meet so many interesting people at the fairs and festivals.
Research continues on the latest novel. I have a working title: Advance the Line. If you’re wondering, it is the continuing story of the McKenzie family. The current book, Tremaine, A Lakota Warrior in Roosevelt’s Rough Riders, introduces Tremaine’s two sons. The story has them at Norwich University, one graduating and completing his first year, and both facing the United States’ entry into World War One. There was a cavalry theme through the first four books, and by the time WWI began, we see the introduction of armor…yes, tanks. It was transitional for the Army and warfare as a whole.
The research on how the Army started its tank program is fascinating. Oh, and the program’s genesis is a testament to none other than George S. Patton (later of WWII fame), who would become the premier tank commander. I’ll say there is a connection to the Mackenzie’s in this historical fiction novel.
Come by the table in Punta Gorda, and we’ll talk about the research and the story’s direction.
